Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service required a new building to house their Urban Search and Rescue Team and specialist incident equipment and vehicles. The 6 appliance / equipment pod bays and rear covered training area provided the form for the inverted roof creating a different kind of building on the Washington Hall Service Training Centre site.
This building replaced an “end of life” storage garage whose site was required for the proposed USAR Facility. The 5 bays provide storage / repair facilities for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service vehicles, with adjacent accommodation providing specialist breathing apparatus facilities serving all the Fire Stations within Lancashire.
Day Crewing Plus Accommodation Blocks at Rawtenstall, Darwen, Bispham, Nelson, Morecambe, Chorley, Bamber Bridge, Skelmersdale.
Following changes to staffing rotas within the Fire Service, Day Crewing Plus accommodation blocks have been provided on a number of sites around Lancashire to provide high quality overnight accommodation for Fire Fighters who now spend extended periods of time on site. The 5 bedroomed, timber framed accommodation blocks provide energy efficient and comfortable facilities where Fire Fighters and their families can use when based on site.
The work for the Ministry of Defence at this site involved the total refurbishment of an existing Army Reserve Centre serving north Manchester. The refurbishment of the main building has transformed the dated and tired office / training accommodation, while the conversion of existing garage buildings in to offices and gymnasium has lead to the site being the main focus for reservist recruitment in Manchester.
